Educational establishments/schoolsCombating noise gets a poor grade A lot of noise in schools is nothing new. Classrooms are often linked by thin walls and windows are often not double-glazed. Shrieking and yelling in one classroom often distracts another. Conversations teachers hold in the corridor can be easily heard by the pupils. This is to the detriment of learning, with all the consequences which come with it. All these sounds are regarded in the classrooms as disturbing environmental sound. It is distracting, decreases concentration and can even cause pupils stress. Disturbing sounds are best combated with soundmasking; a specifically developed and tested technique facilitating improved performance by making working or learning conditions more comfortable. |
